Caroline Cotto is a French visual artist born in Nice in 1991.
She studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven, in the Netherlands. After her studies she explored different medium thought the study of colors.
Cotto's art practice is distinguished by a profound exploration of colors and light through multiple angles. Pulling from her lived experiences in different European cities as Nice, Paris, Eindhoven, London, Lisbon and Rome.
Painting has been her medium of choice since she moved to Lisbon in January 2023. In her most recent works, she explores landscape painting, imagining surreal spaces. She is placing familiar elements seen in her hometown, as cypress or olive trees, into a foreign environment, welcoming or hostile.
Questioning the idea of home and identity, she is inviting the viewer to explore their perceptions thought her colored, undefined landscapes.
Cotto has exhibited both individually and collectively in art spaces and institutions in France and elsewhere such as: Object Rotterdam (2019), Design Museum-Gent 5(2021), Tripostal-Lille (2021), Solarium-Marseille (2022), Centre Culturel la Coupole-La Gaude (2023).
She currently works between Nice and Lisbon.
